If you've a penchant for thick peanut sauces and rich curries, or if the mere thought of sambal belacan makes you drool, head on down to The RiceTable to satisfy your cravings.

This stylishly-decorated Indonesian restaurant in Orchard Road serves an all-you-can-eat a la carte buffet at an affordable $18 per person.

Being a meat lover, I naturally started with the Chicken Satay, an item among the array of dishes that was laid before me.

More substantial than the usual variety, the chunks of chicken tantalised all my senses. They were nicely barbecued to a dark golden-brown colour, juicy and a tad spicy.

The taste of the flavourful barbecued meat was further enhanced by the luscious peanut sauce, which was ground so thoroughly that it reminded me of sesame paste.

Let me tell you about the Tahu Telor, which came next. The crispy egg omelette which topped the dish proved satisfying, while the soft and sweet tofu cubes beneath not only provided a neat counterpoint to the omelette, but were in themselves just as delightful.

I took my time to appreciate their smooth texture. But what really won me over was the accompanying paste, made from a mix of peanut butter, prawns, sambal and other condiments.

The combined flavours of these ingredients yielded a powerfully delectable combo that was sweet, savoury and spicy all at once. I certainly wouldn't mind eating just the paste with nothing else.



Also on the board were other iconic Indonesian dishes like Beef Rendang, Vegetables in Coconut Stew, Prawn in Sambal Sauce, Kangkong Belachan and more.

After we were done indulging in these delicacies, we wrapped up our meal with the lovely Indonesian Fruit Salad.

This piquant mix of apples and pineapple bathed in sweet soy-based sauce was so refreshing!
